Muskoka Real Estate Matters – By Maggie Tomlinson
With fewer mainland listings available in the Muskoka cottage market, many buyers have been asking me to expand their cottage search to include water access retreats – so this week I thought we’d take a closer look at the perks of island vs mainland cottaging.
When weighing an island cottage lifestyle vs a mainland (drive-to) cottage here are a few things to consider:
Value – Getting more bang for your buck is something we certainly all love – with a water access property your Realtor can show you that you’ll get more privacy, more property, more Muskoka shoreline and usually a much more expansive view for your dollar.
Privacy – Island dwellers enjoy a sense of peace that comes with being surrounded by water. And sometimes it’s great to know that family & friends can’t just drive right up to the back door!
Enjoyment – Arriving at the cottage always starts with a boat ride, and often only a few minutes from the local marina or private landing. Island cottages are also known to take advantage of less bugs, more cross breezes and less humidity, making outdoor activities a lot more fun.
Have high expectations of your Realtor, ask questions & consider all of your options when buying a vacation property in Muskoka – seasonal vs year round – island vs mainland – you decide.
Until next time – stay safe on the water & on our roads – and happy buying and selling!
